The nearest village is Boat of Garten and the community website has lots of useful information (www.boatofgarten.com) including opening hours of the post office which is accompanied by a general store selling local veg, fresh bread and coffee. This community site will also keep you informed on all local events such as the Steam Train weekends, local festivals and local free walks with the ranger. The village also has a hotel, caravan park, a general store as well as a good restaurant called Anderson’s which offers a wide variety of cuisine, much locally sourced.
There are regular nights known as Fishy Friday’s and Pie nights, so well worth a visit but make sure you book beforehand. A full list of ‘What’s On’ can be found at (http://visitcairngorms.com) or look at our NEWS page (click here) for more regular events or indeed our facebook page where we share information. One’s to watch are the Husky Racing in January and the Harley Davidson’s in August!
Tesco Clubcard vouchers can be used for local attractions include Landmark and the Cairngorm Funicular as well as the Highland Wildlife Park. Other attractions that are worth a visit include the Strathspey Steam Train and the Osprey’s at Boat of Garten.
The cottage is a great location for exploring the area on foot, bicycle and indeed horseback with so many routes within a short distance, particularly the Speyside Way.
