Things To Do

SketchThe nearest village is Boat of Garten and the community website has lots of useful information including opening hours of the post office which is accompanied by a general store selling local veg, fresh bread and coffee. This community site will also keep you informed on all local events such as the Steam Train weekends, local festivals and local free walks with the ranger. The village also has a hotel, caravan park, several eateries including the Golf Club and Anderson’s restaurant which offers a wide variety of cuisine, much locally sourced. We can also recommend the fish and chips from the mobile chip shop on a Thursday in the village or indeed Nethy Hotel where you can collect a good selection of meals.   It is also possible to get deliveries from local shops, butchers (Balliefurth Farm in Nethy Bridge).  During COVID 19, there are a number of local cafes and independent shops delivering, so please just ask us.

The Highland Wildlife Park and Kincraig Zip Wire are also Milne family favourites along with a trip to the RSPB centre at Loch GartenBallindalloch Castle, Nethy House Coffee shop, visiting Grantown on Spey or Tomintoul.  Other attractions already mentioned include the Strathspey Steam Train and Landmark.  If you wish to go further afield, Spey Bay and Dolphins are a great day trip along with a visit to Inverness and its fabulous swimming pool, parks and walks along the river.  For those into distilleries there are plenty to visit, be it for whisky or gin, in fact we have our hand sanitiser from a local distillery.

The cottage is a great location for exploring the area on foot, bicycle and indeed horseback with so many routes within a short distance, particularly the Speyside Way, Boat of Garten woods or a cycle to Nethy for a coffee and cake. Other interests in the area include golfing and fishing and with good courses such as Boat of Garten on the door step, there is ample to do. A full list of ‘What’s On’ can be found at VisitCairngorms or look at our facebook or twitter pages where we share information.  Ones to watch are the Husky Racing in January and the Harley Davidsons in August!
