The nearest village is Boat of Garten and the community website has lots of useful information (www.boatofgarten.com) including opening hours of the post office which is accompanied by a general store selling local veg, fresh bread and coffee. This community site will also keep you informed on all local events such as the Steam Train weekend, Hog on the Bog and so forth.The village also has a hotel, caravan park, bicycle shop and another general store as well as a good restaurant called Anderson's (www.andersonrestaurant.co.uk) which offers a wide variety of cuisine, much locally sourced. Local attractions include Landmark (http://www.landmarkpark.co.uk/) and the Cairngorm Furnicular (http://www.cairngormmountain.co.uk/) both of which are listed on the Tesco clubcard voucher exchange scheme (http://www.tesco.com/clubcard/deals/). Tesco also deliver to the cottage so should you wish to pre-order a delivery and save space in the car, it's an option. From the garden you will see the steam from the Strathspey Steam railway (http://www.strathspeyrailway.co.uk/) which stops at Boat of Garten, Broomhill (made famous by the TV programme, Monarch of The Glen) and Aviemore. It is not only the steam from the train you will see, but as the crow flies, Pilmuir is 2miles from the RSPB at Loch Garten, which is famous for Ospreys (http://www.rspb.org.uk/reserves/guide/l/lochgarten/lochgartenospreynest.aspx).

Events

One of note is Thunder in the Glens (http://dunedinhog.com/ThunderintheGlens.aspx) which is the 26-29th August and takes place in Aviemore. the Harley Davidsons are a great addition to the area for the weekend and so is the fireworks display
